Charlottesville, VA –Virginia’s Office of the Secretary of Technology Unmanned Commission gathered on the University of Virginia campus to develop a set of minimum requirements for the use of UAVs (drones) by first responders from the Commonwealth. David Hinton, Executive Director to the Unmanned Systems Commission had stakeholder representation including; emergency personnel, communications personnel, VDEM, Data base management personnel, public relations, legislative representatives, FAA and HAZON Solutions as the UAV operator.
“HAZON is honored to participate in these discussions.” Sean Cushing, HAZON President and Co-Founder stated. “We were asked to provide input because we have already developed a safe, validated program to operate UAVs within the rules and regulations of the FAA. We are happy to provide our lessons learned to help develop this capability for the Commonwealth. I believe that even more lives will be saved when UAVs are used regularly by Virginia’s First Responders.”
Today’s meeting was only the second on the subject of Minimum Requirements. The results will be provided to the Office of the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security.
Our input was necessary and well received. We want to promote this capability for the Commonwealth. It is the right thing to do. Cushing stated.
