HAZON Supports UAS Industry Workshop
Hampton, VA. March 3, 2015 - HAZON Solutions, LLC (HAZON) Chief Engineer and sUAS Pilot Mark Genung CAPT (ret) was invited to participate in a UAS Industry Workshop hosted by Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) and the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). The focus of the workshop was to address how to better educate students to career opportunities in the UAS Industry. The Virginia Secretary of Technology, Ms. Karen Jackson was the keynote speaker and highlighted the importance of implementing interdisciplinary degrees for unmanned systems.
As part of the Workshop, Mr Genung participated in a three-member industry panel that addressed the specific skills that TNCC should integrate into their proposed unmanned systems degree program.
Mark Genung noted, “Our Industry requires people with many of the abilities associated with a systems engineer. They need to understand the systems interdependence between the vehicle, sensors and ground station; and be able to employ troubleshooting techniques to maintain the UAS. We will need people that understand knowledge management, imagery assessment and cyber security. It will also be important to be proficient in how to use Operational Risk Management to employ these systems within the FAA’s regulatory framework.”
The TNCC training initiative has broad support among Hampton Roads UAS Companies. In a recent Hampton Roads AUVSI sponsored poll, over 80% of the responders reported they would support their employees attending courses to improve their level of knowledge in safety, operations, cyber security, digital imaging and advanced technologies.
